Emil Cioran
      (1911-1995)



Philosopher, essayist, moralist. As Octavian Goga he was born near Sibiu in Rasinari village. His father was also priest. Highschool in Sibiu and next the Philosophy and Letters University in Bucharest (1928-1932). He obtain a study scholarship at Berlin and after he is highschool teacher at Brasov (1936-1937).

He goes to Paris, with a scholarship, for his doctorate paper, but he travels in France for 10 years, without having any project. In 1940 is cultural counsellor at the Romanian Embassy. After the war he remains in exil and decides to write in French, after he have had publisher 5 books in Romanian during 1934-1937: Pe culmile disperarii, Cartea amagirilor, Schimbarea la fata a României, Lacrimi si sfinti, Amurgul gândurilor.

After 1989 Revolution his most appreciated books in Occident are edited in Romanian: Pain Revelations, Temptation to exist, History and Utopy, Solitude and Destiny s.o.
